Beautiful Kate (15) plus Q&A with director Rachel Ward
Fri 30 July 2010

Beautiful Kate
Presented by Curzon Soho in association with Fusion Media and Verve Pictures
The directorial debut from actress Rachel Ward, Beautiful Kate shows real sensitivity and skill, announces Ward as a strong new voice in cinema, as both writer and director of this memorable, difficult story. After a twenty-year absence, Ned Kendall (Ben Mendelsohn) reluctantly returns to the isolated family homestead at the request of his downtrodden sister Sally (Rachel Griffiths) to visit the deathbed of his cantankerous and bullying father (Bryan Brown, Australia). Ned has dragged his young fiancée Toni (Maeve Dermody) along to act as a lipstick-coated suit of armour, but dark memories are what Ned must guard against. Revisiting traumas of the past (including the death of his twin sister - impressive teenager Sophie Lowe) does little to calm the stormy waters between father and son.
Following this special screening, Rachel Ward will be in conversation with The Script Factory's Briony Hanson.
