“The great thing about writing is that there’re so many mediums through which to reach people. To date I’ve written for the advertising industry; I’ve written for music, fashion and film magazines and I’ve written poetry - scooping an Ottaker’s Poetry Award a few years ago. This is my first foray into film and I’m loving every minute of it.
I definitely see my future in writing for film - both shorts and features. I want to tell stories that are real and that don’t pull their punches. I definitely want to leave a little piece of myself in every project that I do.”
For his Digital Short, Roger Hadfield is directing the short drama Hand To Mouth
This is a story about a young boy’s desire for the girl of his dreams; his struggle to connect with his distant mother and his fight to protect her from a man that could keep her trapped in a past of violence and misery.
When thirteen year-old Liam finds a bag of money ‘discarded’ in an old lock-up he figures it’s a gift from God, after all, he deserves it - what with a mother who only sees in him a smaller version of her abusive dead husband, a potential step-dad who’s bad news and near invisibility to any girl he comes into contact with.
While he plans how to save his mum, he uses the cash to attract the attentions of fifteen year-old gang leader Alisha. But when his flirtations with young love end painfully and fate catches up with him, he discovers how he can use the money to get what he really wants – but what will the true cost be?
