Avril Evans

Avril graduated from The London College of Printing with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Philosophy.

BBC trained, Avril cut her teeth writing and directing trailers for BBC1,2,4 and CBBC, giving her an opportunity to mix CGI with live action. She went on to win a handful of industry awards called Promax, for outstanding work.

While at the BBC Avril made a couple of short films. Her first, LIP SERVICE, received runner up prize in a BBC competition and also won best short film at the Images of Black women judged by a panel of award winning filmmakers including BAFTA winner Amma Asante. She was then commissioned to write and direct a short film called RALPH RULES with a community project that helped excluded kids.

Recently, Avril was selected to represent the UK for the "biggest worldwide factual event ever" called Why Democracy where she wrote and directed the short film FAMOUS LAST WORDS. This was shown at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2008.

Avril has been selected onto the Digital Shorts Scheme with the project Playground

Best friends, MALACHI and NEIL’S playground is a special place where they go to get away from it all, recharge their batteries, relax and think…but this all changes when their urban paradise is shattered by an unwelcome guest.

Playground is a story primarily about domestic violence. The film reflects modern reality within Britain's inner cities and explores themes of friendship amid a generation of boys to whom violence has become a fact of life - where boys try to be men before they're even teenagers.
