Fyzal Boulifa

Fyzal Boulifa has thus far written and directed several short films. In 2007 he made Afternoon with B3Media, a stark observational drama about a mother and daughter struggling with a changed family dynamic. He is interested in working with non-professional performers and spare, restrained camera work. He is inspired by many European and Japanese directors, including The Dardennes, Dreyer and Ozu.

Fyzal has been selected onto the Digital Shorts Scheme with the project Whore

Whore observes the destructive relationship between two teen outsiders – the macho but unpredictable and socially awkward Azeem and his white girlfriend Gemma – who, unlike Azeem, is nonchalant about her growing reputation as the local slag. When the she tries to escape Azeem’s violent temper, Azeem resorts to increasingly desperate and cruel measures to retain his loosening grip on her.
