Paul Dean
Paul Dean is one part of indie filmmakers, Ravenhurst Films, together with Ben Thornley and Shonagh Ingram who he met on a NW Vision funded scriptwriting course. He is the writer/director of The Lovers, a gritty, dark and realistic short film, and has directed a number of music videos with Ben Thornley of Sitcom Soldiers and Ravenhurst Films. He is an ex-lawyer, ex-dancer, ex-choreographer, ex-actor, ex-promoter, ex-band manager and still likes to think of himself as a musician (he has the long hair and everything!). In his spare time he has a job in marketing and likes to think that all those ‘ex’s make him a better director – since he can talk about everything and anything… and often does. His next project is Brother of Mine with Ben and Shonagh and he’s looking forward to making a film without having to explain the artistic necessity of ‘partial nudity’ to his girlfriend.
Paul has been selected onto Digital Shorts by North West Vision with the project Brother of Mine
Brother of Mine is an American History X set in Bolton with the distinctly local flavour of Billy Elliot that will lead the audience to re-examine many of the misconceptions entertained in our local community. A short film that tackles the difficult issues of racial tension from a unique and realistic perspective. Bolton currently has a large Somalian refugee population and just had its first BNP representative stand for local government. It’s a timely story that addresses tensions already felt in the community and provides important insight into preconceived ideas of the issues. It is the second collaboration of indie filmmakers, Ravenhurst Films and their first attempt to apply for funding to make a film.
