Jack Tarling
“I’m originally from North London but I studied film at Northumbria University in Newcastle which I have now made my home.
Like most filmmakers my initial interest was directing but, being young and lacking finance, I also did all my own producing too. Looking back at some of my early work I realised that the real achievement wasn’t how I had directed, but everything else that I had done to get to that stage.
At university I turned my focus to producing and achieved some pleasing results working with other directors. After taking this step back from directing, and learning by watching others, I was able to return to it far more successfully when I directed and co-produced my graduation film, which was selected for special commendation
I continue to predominantly produce, but also to direct when the opportunity arises, and I have received UK Film Council funding in both disciplines.”
Jack has been selected onto Digital Shorts by Northern Film and Media with the project Bus Stop
Each morning a new line of a poem is written on a bus stop. A lonely widow is startled by its appearance.
Can she catch the person writing it? And is he the poet she fell in love with long ago?
