Ian McManus

Since first getting into film-making in 2000, I have developed an ability in screenwriting and direction, through local film groups and through taking the plunge and going back into full time education as a mature student to do a Film and Video degree in Wales in 2007. Since graduating I have continued writing, both on my own and with friends, while working full time. I am currently unemployed and seeking opportunities to develop my writing, directing and all round film-making skills.
Ian has been shortlisted by Northern Ireland Screen for his project A Place for Everything.
A Place for Everything
The film centres around Simon (45), an ex navy man who lives a solitary existence since being forced to leave the navy on medical grounds. He has sunk into alcoholism and, rather than face his inevitable physical decline due to a serious degenerative illness, he decides to end his life one night. But first he must complete his collection of bottled boats. Finding he is missing a bottle for his last boat, he ventures to the local garage for his last bottle of scotch, where he encounters Sheila (38), a lonely woman working the nightshift. Sheila becomes drawn into his world and unsuccessfully tries to connect with Simon, as he proceeds successfully to complete his plan of suicide.
