Among the many responses we received after the brilliant Frank Cottrell Boyce delivered his keynote lecture at our Serious Screenwriting event at BAFTA earlier this summer was a collective gasp at the casual mention of his seven children… yes, home-schooled! This week The Guardian carried another brilliant slice of Frank wisdom as he makes the case for family chaos being friend not foe to the creative mind.

We always knew Bigelow's Hurt Locker would do it!

We couldn't have been more thrilled to see Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal’s The Hurt Locker clean up at the Oscars on Sunday night as they did at the BAFTAs last month. As a result of some string-pulling from distributor’s Optimum, The Script Factory was delighted to stage a preview of the film late last summer together with on-stage conversation with Bigelow and Boal. Hurrah! It’s that time of year again. For most people October means talking about the X Factor, drinking red wine and moaning about the fact it is Autumn. However, for me, Katie Campbell, it means going to the cinema on your own at 9.30am on a Sunday. And occasionally standing in the same room as movie stars and generally being very smug about going to see a lot of films for free ages before anyone else. The London Film Festival is here and the nice Script Factory people have let me write a blog!

Screen Australia calls for Script Factory applicants - last day!

It's the final day for Oz script developers and creative producers to make an application to join The Script Factory when we head for Australia next month to run a Script Developer Training programme as guests of Screen Australia. A workshop aimed at up-skilling the standard of Australian development practice we'll be providing high-quality training in script analysis and development for the benefit of 21 practitioners from around Australia. We'll be staging two three-day workshops in late October 2009, the first in Sydney, hosted by the New South Wales Film and Television Office (Screen NSW), and the second in Melbourne, hosted by Film Victoria.
