FAQ's
I have an idea that I think would make a great film. What should I do?
First things first: The Script Factory can’t write your script for you! But we can help you get a little further down the road to turning your idea into a film.
Assuming you are a total newcomer but interested in becoming a screenwriter yourself, we recommend reading a few choice books or magazines about the art of screenwriting, and very importantly, having a look at some actual screenplays from films which have already been produced, as a way of getting started.
The Script Factory has a small , where you can find both of these things - and we’ve researched a list of websites where you can download scripts for free.
In addition to reading scripts and screenplay books, it might also be useful to consider attending some of our training courses, which range from programmes to suit absolute beginners, to those with much more industry experience. Have a look at our Training Section to find out which might suit you.
There are a number of other organisations which may be able to help you as a newcomer – the best of these is Shooting People - an online community of filmmakers, who can help with queries via a number of daily email bulletins. Do have a good explore of our Resources section for other organisations which might be of use as well.
Did you know that the UK is divided into regions and each region has a Screen Agency responsible for supporting and funding filmmakers living on their patch. You can see a list of all Regional Screen Agencies here – get in touch with your agency to see if they have any beginners’ schemes which might kickstart your film.
