I am a director/producer with an idea and am looking for a writer
Finding talent and scripts is always a tricky business – good projects are few and far between and it is safe to say that one is not simply going to drop into your lap.
More to the point, The Script Factory does not have a filing cabinet stuffed full of brilliant gems just waiting for you to come along and make ‘em! That said, there are several obvious first places to look if you’re after a fresh script to direct / fund / develop.
If you have already spotted a particular writer you like it may be worth trying to contact them via The Writers’ Guild of Great Britain, the trade union representing writers in TV, radio, theatre, books, poetry, film and video games. The Guild has a useful Find A Writer section on their site which contains contact details for all Full Members of the Guild (members with at least one professional credit).
If you have a more general query – or are looking for someone new, a great place to start is by posting a call on Shooting People’s Screenwriters’ Network. The downside of the network – and there is only one – is that you may be inundated with responses, but if you are very specific about what you are looking for – and just as importantly what you are offering in return (payment? credits? the chance to work on xxx, with yyy?) - then it’s a great place to kick off.
We have a close relationship with a number of writers ourselves – check out our Looking for a Writer section for information about some of them.
As with most other things in the film industry, word of mouth usually provides the best results. Let as many people as you can know what you are looking for. You are far more likely to come across someone who you can work well with, this way.
