Anthony Ferner

Anthony Ferner has worked for many years as a university researcher and is currently a professor of international business at Leicester Business School. His writing career so far has largely consisted of academic works. Alongside this he has written several screenplays, including a half-hour drama entered by Blue Heaven Productions for the Dennis Potter Play of the Year Award 1999.

His project with Writers’ Passage 2005 was DIGGING FOR IRELAND, a critical, humorous tale of drift and disillusion in an increasingly materialistic and status-driven country. A disengaged young man in his mid-20s, working casually as a hired hand on an archaeological dig, discovers a valuable and rare ornament, and faces some momentous choices over what to do with it.

Anthony is now looking to develop further a script co-written with John Murphy. THE RAGS OF MEN is a historical drama about a band of shipwrecked survivors from the Spanish Armada. They struggle ashore on the west coast of Ireland, to be plunged into a deadly battle for survival. As they desperately try to escape, they are relentlessly harried by brutal Irish clans and the ruthless British governor, and encumbered by their own misguided notions of loyalty and honour.
