Welcome To Alaska
by Sally El Hosaini

Welcome To Alaska is a coming of age film about sex and desire set in the Egyptian Red Sea resort town of Hurghada.

Boyish 25-year-old Rocky is a sensitive street hustler dissatisfied with the daily grind. He and his best friend, silver-tongued tourist tout, Ali, are two of the many young men who duck and dive through life, a million wisecracks and even more moneymaking schemes. But Rocky’s heart isn’t in it anymore. All he wants is to ‘get’ Darya, the beautiful Russian nightclub dancer he’s obsessed with. When his schemes backfire an unconventional bond with Lizzie, a 45-year-old English tourist on a five-day package holiday, changes the course of his life.

Welcome To Alaska is a quirky story of a lonely soul searching for a human connection. It's a film that explores the gulf that can exist between our aspirations and reality.

During She Writes Sally has been mentored by Robyn Slovo.
