Win tickets to see Claire Denis

Isabelle Huppert in White Material
Wed, 16 Jun 2010
Our friends at London’s Curzon Soho have scored an excellent coup in arranging a preview of the riveting new feature from French auteur Claire Denis followed by a Q&A with Denis herself. Even better, they’ve set aside a number of tickets exclusively for Script Factory Members to attend for free – and they’ve given us an extra pair to be given to you if you can answer a simple question.
White Material is an extraordinary contemporary story set in an unnamed African country torn by a rebellion, which sees Isabelle Huppert in startlingly good form as a woman who refuses to abandon her business despite the danger she’ll inevitably expose her family to.
To win a pair of tickets to preview the film and enjoy the Q&A with Claire Denis on Thursday 24 June at 6.20pm at Curzon Soho, Shaftesbury Avenue, simply answer the following question:
This is the second Claire Denis feature that focusses on colonialism in Africa. What was the first one?
Send your answers to general@scriptfactory.co.uk with Claire Denis in the subject line by 10am on Tuesday 22 June and we’ll notify the successful applicants by return.
More about White Material
A contemporary story set in an unnamed African country torn by a rebellion. In a rural province, birthplace of one of the rebel chiefs, Maria, a fierce and fearless white woman, refuses to abandon her coffee crops, or to acknowledge the danger to which she is exposing her family. For Maria, to leave is to surrender: a sign of weakness, of cowardice. Isabelle Huppert and Christophe Lambert lead an astonishing cast in this African-set first action drama from redoubtable French auteur Claire Denis (Beau Travail, 35 Shots of Rum).
“Her strongest work since Beau Travail” – Hollywood Reporter
“White Material has a hectic power, fuelled by constant unease, captured by Yves Cape’s intense roving camerawork, culminating in a provocative ending that turns the entire film’s portrait of racial and familial dynamics on its ear." – Indiewire
