Following early career starts in publishing and then accountancy, Lucy found fame in the entertainment industry when she co-created the gay club brand ‘Flesh’ at Manchester’s Hacienda and contributed to the early 90s Manchester revival.
Returning to London in 1996, Lucy joined the newly conceived Script Factory and produced the first season of Screenplay Readings in London. As The Script Factory grew, Lucy headed up development and training programmes, working with new and established writers in the UK and overseas and has been Co-director since it was constituted as a limited company in 1997.
Lucy has been a development mentor for students at many universities; has devised and delivered courses for numerous production companies, MEDIA training courses and the UK Film Council; has developed both short and feature writers; has worked extensively for a number of regional production funds; and conducts regular development training for The Script Factory both throughout the UK and internationally (with a CV which has taken her to Australia, Sweden, Germany, Spain, Slovenia, Israel, Palestine, Brazil, India and beyond). She also runs an annual screenwriter training course for the Arvon Foundation.
Having devised the UK's first ever course for Script Readers over ten years ago, Lucy now heads The Script Factory's Diploma in Script Development, the first study programme of its kind staged in partnership with the National Film and Television School.
She is also a regular contributor to Scriptwriter Magazine where she is celebrated for her series of articles on ‘genre’, and has recently contributed articles to several books including the The Screenwriter's Handbook (Pan MacMillan), and Filmmakers' Yearbook (A&C Black), both published in 2007.
