Misunderstood by her ancient nosey parents, irritated by her annoying 3 year old sister, and having to wear a beret to school, 14 year old Georgia Nicolson is buoyed up by the love of her cat, Angus, and her bessie mates, the Ace Gang. Eccentric and irresistible, she has two aims in life: 1) to get a gorgeous sex-god as her boyfriend and 2) to throw the greatest 15th birthday party ever. When two handsome brothers arrive at school, Georgia thinks her boyfriend dreams have been answered. But when she sees one of them with her arch-rival Lindsay, she devises a plan to show him that she’s the mature, sophisticated girlfriend he deserves.
Through teen eyes - Angus ThongsA smart coming-of-age story from Gurinder (Bend it Like Beckham) Chadha, Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging is a very British take on American high school movies like Clueless and Mean Girls with more than a smattering of John Hughes thrown in for good measure. Based on the International best-selling series of books by Louise Rennison, the film revolves around Georgia’s hilarious journal entries, and gives a fantastically funny glimpse into the soaring joys and bottomless angst of being a teenager and moving up the ‘snogging scale’.
We are thrilled that writer/director Gurinder Chadha and co-writer Paul Mayeda Berges will join us immediately after this preview to explore the art of making films which don’t patronise a teen audience, and to explain the process of adapting an adored teen cult novel for the big screen.
