Steven Butler
Steven Butler graduated from university in 1996 with an honours degree in engineering and was a volunteer worker on a Raleigh International charity expedition to Zimbabwe before joining professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers and qualifying as a chartered accountant. Seeking a different challenge he resigned from his job in 2004 and worked as a volunteer project leader on another Raleigh International charity expedition this time in Ghana before accepting a place on the London Film Academy’s intensive one year filmmaking diploma course.
Steven graduated with numerous short film credits including producer, writer and director and was also presented with the “Most Outstanding Student of the year” Award. Apartment 406 a short film written by Steven whilst at the Academy was nominated for the Best Short Film at the 2006 ECU European Independent Film Festival.
Since graduating Steven has set up his own company “Badland Productions Limited” and as a writer / director has a number of feature films in various stages of development with this company. Steven has also worked in a number of production roles since graduating including Production Manager on the B3 Media / UKFC funded short film Chicken Soup (nominated for Best Irish Short in Foyle 2006 film festival) and recently worked on the production of the feature film The Cottage with Steel Mill Productions.
Steve has been selected onto the Digital Shorts Scheme by Screen West Midlands with the project Night Time
This is a maturation story. ADAM, a boy of 8, whose father, a British soldier, has recently been killed is afraid of the monsters hiding in his room despite what his mother GAIL says. When he is put to bed Adam assures his mum he will “be brave, like dad”. Adam eventually conquers his fears of the monsters lurking in the house but must also learn that not all monsters are imaginary. Adam, fighting the creatures in his imagination comes across a burglar and has to fight a real enemy. In overcoming these dangers Adam reveals an inner strength showing that he is truly his father’s son and has taken over the mantle of the “man of the house”.
