Avril Evans
Avril cut her creative teeth writing and directing promos and short form content for the BBC. Her unique ideas and audacious talent led to industry recognition and a handful of UK and US Promax awards. At this time and aided by copious amounts of strong black coffee, Avril started writing and directing personal projects. Her first film won best short at the Images of Black Women Film Festival. The Berlin International Film Festival team spotted her burgeoning flair and passion for storytelling and she was asked to join their Talent Campus. On her return to the UK, she wrote Happy Slapper, a short experimental play for Radio 3. Avril's next film Playground was selected for PULSE, the Film London digital short scheme. It was very popular on the festival circuit and the recipient of many awards. She’s currently writing her first feature film and was thrilled to be offered the opportunity to develop it on the She Writes scheme.
During She Writes, Avril worked on the feature, Pathmore.
Pathmore
by Avril Evans
When Dean returns home to Pathmore, carrying a secret he knows will kill him, he discovers a new leader, a new order, a new home. Stuck in unfamiliar territory which path does Dean take next? After burying his older brother Carlton, Dean travels to the Caribbean to complete his education. While abroad Dean discovers a small lump on his manhood that he chooses to ignore. After all, with his lot he’ll be lucky to make 25 anyway. Coming home to Carlton’s memorial means returning to Pathmore, the rambling South London Estate of his childhood as well as a country in debt. Pathmore has fallen into the hands of power hungry Otis who has purchased it on the cheap from the local council. Otis styles himself as a philanthropic entrepreneur but Dean soon sees that Otis is on a mission to leave his mark on the place and this means new boundaries and new rules.
During She Writes Avril has been mentored by Laurence Coriat.
