Ben Affleck’s feature debut as director, Gone Baby Gone, which he also adapted from the novel by Dennis Lehane (Mystic River), sees a major starring role for his younger brother Casey. Affleck junior stars as Patrick Kenzie, a baby-faced private investigator who finds himself embroiled in a local tragedy when he steps in to help find a little girl who’s been abducted from his Boston neighbourhood. Clashing with the police team who are also on the hunt for the missing 4yr old, Patrick and Angie, his partner - in both business and life - find the investigation dragging them into a moral conundrum where their relationship, their sanity, and even their lives are suddenly at risk.

Already a major Award-winner with Amy Ryan singled out as an Academy Award-nominee for her performance as the distraught single mother, Gone Baby Gone fell foul of real life events moments before its planned release last year when its story seemed to echo that of the awful Madeleine McCann abduction. Affleck decided it would be sensitive to delay the release. Now, with a year’s distance, the film can be properly judged and the result is a truly impressive debut for him, a taut emotional thriller, and a signal of the huge talent of Casey Affleck.

We are delighted that following this preview screening Casey Affleck will be joining us to talk about his career to date which as an actor has seen him go from Lonesome Jim to The Assassination of Jesse James via Ocean’s 11, in addition to co-writing Gus Van Sant’s Gerry in which he starred alongside Matt Damon.
