Re-visit Ben Hecht

Notorious is one of Hitchcock’s most darkly romantic, disturbing and suspenseful thrillers. The script is from legendary screenwriter Ben Hecht - winner of the very first Best Screenplay Oscar - who based it loosely on a story that had appeared in The Saturday Evening Post about a young actress who was recruited to sleep with a spy in order to get hold of some valuable information. The film gets another lease of life this month as part of a giant Ingrid Bergman retro (at BFI Southbank) – and we have free tickets and other goodies on offer to celebrate.
