About Digi Shorts

For much of the last decade the UK Film Council's New Cinema Fund partnered with organisations in each of the UK's regions and nations in order to enable filmmakers to make innovative shorts using digital technology. Sadly the scheme as a whole has now ended due to the current restructure of the public funding bodies, although many individual regions are continuing with their own digital schemes.

Digital Shorts was a major annual programme, and was adapted by each regional or national organisation into a bespoke programme to suit the filmmakers in each area. Despite differences, there were several unifying features to the scheme in each region:

King Ponce, a Screen Yorkshire-funded Digital Short from 2007

* Each filmmaker shot their work using digital technology

and

* Each filmmaker had the chance to attend up to 3 days of advanced training designed both to help them complete their film as well as to equip them with useful skills to progress their careers

And this is where The Script Factory came in: courtesy of funding from Skillset's Film Skills Fund, we were commissioned to design and deliver the training programme to accompany the Digital Shorts programme from 2007-2010.

Guest tutors ranged from Oscar/BAFTA nominee Mike Figgis, BIFA-winners Eran Creevy (Shifty) and Paul Andrew Williams (London To Brighton), post-production experts Alistair Hopkins (The Queen, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll) and Larry Sider (The School Of Sound), and many others.
