Frances Calvey
Frances is a former BBC Radio Producer with over 5 years media industry experience. Armed with a creative mind, a capacity for learning and an aptitude for business, she endeavoured to start a traditional home-grown video production company and founded Kirkwood Media. Whilst attending a Northern Film & Media Producer Training programme she was shortlisted as a finalist in the prestigious 'Content 360 Competition' at MipTV and went to Cannes to pitch a website idea in front of BBC commissioners. She was a finalist who pitched against two international agencies and was shortlisted form 17 countries that applied with ideas for the competition. On returning from the event Frances started a Digital Fellowship at Teesside University, developing Kirkwood Media into a full digital media production company with great ambition and energy for a successful future.
Frances has been shortlisted by Northern Film and Media for the project Dystopia St.
Dystopia St. is a fantastical story set in a world between subconsciousness and reality. A world where meaning and logic are forgotten and distortion and nightmare are the central forces around which everything else revolves. The narrative follows the voyage of one man as he attempts to unravel the mystery of his plight, haunted throughout his journey by his darkest fears made physical. A mixture of live action and CGI, Dystopia St. is a visually extreme and challenging story filled with an equal amount of subtlety and complexity and guaranteed to ask of its audience as many questions as offer answers.
