Nicola Bowen
Nicola Bowen is a regional shorts producer working towards a career in features. After 10 years experience at the regional screen agency, in skills and business development, Nicola recently decided to move across into production, encouraged by the success of her award-winning first short. The film, Me Head's a Shed, was produced on a modest budget of £2,000 and went on to screen in The Best of British selection at Encounters 2007 and win the Best Yorkshire Short at Leeds International Film Festival 2007. Nicola set up Belly Productions in 2008 and is currently developing a short and several features with regional writers. Nicola has highly transferable skills, extensive industry knowledge and a contacts book to die for.
Nicola has been shortlisted by Screen Yorkshire and North West Vision and Media for her project Top of the Range.
Top of the Range
An abandoned cooker takes a road trip, aided and abetted by of a couple of homeless likely lads. For Jodie and Will, the sale of an abandoned cooker could provide the answer to each of their immediate problems; Jodie needs the cash for the train fare to reach his dying mother and Will needs to score. In their farcical attempt to sell the cooker, we see them through the eyes of the people they meet along the way, who reveal a microcosm of attitudes towards the homeless in contemporary Britain, wile simultaneously providing a few laughs along the way.
