Urmala Jassal

Urmala Jassal is currently Programme Manager for sampad south Asian arts, focusing on supporting and promoting dance, music, theatre, literature and visual arts. Prior to this, for seven years, she was the Producer at Light House Media Centre (Wolverhampton). Amongst her filmography, developed whilst heading Light House Productions, are award winning short film drama funded by UK Film Council; 2D and 3D animation; promotional video's for corporate organisations and digital educational projects with young people. Urmala graduated in Sociology in 1997 at the University of Wolverhampton and went on to study a Master of Arts in Media Production at the University of Central England gaining a distinction. After which she worked in various production companies including Endboard Productions and the BBC Asian Programmes Unit on factual based programming.
 
Urmala has been shortlisted by Scren West Midlands for her project Do you Like Dancing.
 
Do you Like Dancing is a short film about a 15 year old boy with Asperger's who needs a father, and a recovering addict who has lost a son. Through their unlikely friendship they find a way to communicate again.
