Clare Macdonald

Clare Macdonald is a writer of film and fiction. She lives in London. 5th of 12 children, Clare was born in South London, educated in France and read Classics at Oxford. Currently working on her debut novel, Clare divides her time unequally between prose and screenwriting. Clare's other achievements include lyrics and creative direction for a top London band, poetry and performance.
Clare has been commissioned by Film London with the project Albatross, written in collaboration with award-winning director Kim Albright.
Albatross was first inspired by the performances and life of contemporary classical pianist James Rhodes. The story soon evolved beyond the simply biographical to an exploration of the aftermath of abuse, the lifelong power of family, and creation as a cathartic power. Like the Albatross of Baudelaire's poem written over a century ago, the artist must fly; without expression he is grounded, ridiculous, doomed even. Only via his art can the artist make sense of himself and the world around him, and the world of him.
