Catharine Ashdown

Catharine's first insight into scriptwriting came while working as an Extra on the BBC Northern Ireland production Too Late To Talk To Billy. She went on to train as a Script Editor at the BBC, working in development for Drama Series and Serials, before taking up writing. Her first screenplay, Borderland, was commissioned by director Margo Harkin (Hush-A-Bye Baby). She continues to work freelance as a Script Editor and as a Literary Associate for the Theatre Writing Partnership in Nottingham.
Catharine has been shortlisted by EM Media with the project Seed.
Nineteen year-old LILY lives with her mother and grandmother, the three generations of women bound by a legacy of failed romances. When a vulnerable stranger arrives at the family's flower farm, LILY seizes on her chance for love. But is it just a case of history repeating itself?
Seed sets out to capture the Magic Realism of films such as Like Water for Chocolate and The House of the Spirits. Here, instead of food and its preparation, the inner lives of the film's characters surface through its imagery of the life cycle of flowers.
