Mair Angharad Thomas

Mair wrote her first short film while studying English at Jesus College, Oxford. Brawd a Chwaer (Brother and Sister) was produced for S4C in 2003, directed by Euros Lyn. After moving to Cardiff to work as a researcher, she wrote a second short Megs in 2005, which was directed by Elen Bowman. In the same year she became Script Editor for independent producer OpusTF, working on a series of shorts for S4C and projects for the Arts Council of Wales. She consulted on TV and feature projects including The Venus of Aeron and Driven (both of which were supported by the Film Agency for Wales). In 2009, she works as a translator, and continues write for film and other media, and is involved with various development projects.
Mair has been shortliseted by the Film Agency for Wales with the project The Bright Lights.
The Bright Lights
Ally lives in a place where nothing happens and dreams of running away to a new life. There's one thing stopping her - her Dad. Ally wants to find out about her mother, but her Dad doesn't think she's ready for the truth. Set in the South Wales valleys where staggering landscapes are scarred by the remains of industry, The Bright Lights is a rights of passage story about a girl who wants to find out where she’s come from, to work out where she wants to go. Since being shortlisted for Digital Shorts Wales, Hefin Rees has been attached as director.
