The Script Factory team has been deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden loss of our dearly-loved and most generous Board Member, Anthony Minghella. Anthony was first involved in the life of The Script Factory from its very early days as an enthusiastic supporter of our Performed Readings programme. He subsequently offered to stage a preview to our friends and followers of his latest release, The Talented Mr. Ripley. The masterclass which followed, where he spoke at length in conversation with fellow director John Madden, was so inspiring it kick-started The Script Factory’s entire Screening & Events programme, not least when he described himself as a writer first, director second.

He was a consistent supporter taking part in numerous seminars and masterclasses where he talked about his films with astonishing openness and unstinting generosity. He chaired many of our sessions including a return match masterclass with John Madden, sessions with Tom Tykwer, the Butterworth Brothers, Joshua Marston and others. Last year he hosted a legendary evening at The Hayward Gallery, where we celebrated the career of his colleague, Sydney Pollack.

We add our deep appreciation for his life to the countless others who will miss him so much; we are so proud that he was a friend to us and utterly grateful for what he did for The Script Factory. We will truly cherish our memories of Anthony.
