Richard Crane & Faynia Williams

Richard Crane was Resident Dramatist at the National Theatre and Dramaturg at the Royal Court. He is the winner of 9 Edinburgh Fringe Firsts and nominated for Best New Play (Evening Standard) and Best Musical (Ivor Novello Award). His plays include Brothers Karamazov (Fortune Theatre), Mutiny! (Piccadilly), The Possessed (Almeida), Gogol (Royal Court), Vanity (Young Vic and Gate). As a screenwriter he has written for BBC, Channel 4 and the Children痴 Film Foundation.
 
Faynia Williams is an award winning Theatre & Opera Director, Faynia also writes and presents BBC Radio Documentary Features. She has made 2 short films and a TV documentary with Roger Graef - The Secret Life of the Soviet Union.
 
She and Richard Crane have become a screenwriting team and currently have two projects they are developing:
 
The General and The Ballerina, based on a true story.
The future Deputy Head of MI6 falls in love with the Prima Ballerina of the Georgian State Opera in Tblisi in the springtime of 1941. After a whirlwind courtship they marry secretly but at that very moment the Iron Curtain falls separating them. She becomes a pawn in the political games of the Cold War, is tortured and sent to Siberia, he thinking her dead remarries and settles in the English countryside. This epic romance shows how love can survive against all the odds.
